Criminal Record Checking
parkrun Ireland has determined that junior parkrun Run Directors, Event Directors, plus anyone who volunteers at junior parkrun on a regular basis needs a Garda vetting check.
The Garda vetting check is provided free of charge by Athletics Ireland.
If a cleared Run Director is not available then the event must be cancelled.
A new junior parkrun will only have a start date agreed when all of the event team Garda vetting checks have been completed and confirmed by Athletics Ireland.
Getting Checked
For the purposes of parkrun, Garda Vetting checks are not transferable from agencies other than Athletics Ireland.
If a volunteer has not completed the Garda vetting process, they should do this via the Athletics Ireland website. To aid with the recordkeeping use the event name on the ‘club’ section of the application, for example, St Annes junior parkrun.
If a volunteer has a Garda vetting check completed by another agency they must still complete an application via the Athletics Ireland website. To aid with the recordkeeping use the event name on the ‘club’ section of the application, for example, St Annes junior parkrun.
If a volunteer already has a completed Garda Vetting check with Athletics Ireland, but under a different club name, they must contact us via eventsupport@parkrun.com and include the following details:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- parkrun ID
- parkrun event name
- Club name used on the Garda Vetting application
This information will then be sent to Athletics Ireland to confirm that the checks have been completed.
Important: We should not ask a person to provide their Garda Vetting certificate.
Garda vetting checks last for three years and aren’t automatically renewed. If the person still requires a Garda vetting with parkrun at the expiry date they will need to complete the application process again.
ID checking must be completed, in person, by your event ambassador. If this is not possible, please contact eventsupport@parkrun.com and we will provide an alternative option.
