Criminal Record Checking
In Scotland, the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme is managed and delivered by Disclosure Scotland. It helps make sure people whose behaviour makes them unsuitable to work with children and/or protected adults can’t do ‘regulated work’ with these groups.
All Event Directors and Run Directors of junior parkrun events in Scotland must have a PVG check. If a cleared Run Director is not available the event must be cancelled.
Applications for PVG checks for junior parkrun Run Directors and Event Directors uses the following process:
- The applicant contacts their Event Ambassador and provides relevant details including name, address, date of birth, personal email address and details of any previous checks.
- The Event Ambassador will then verify the Applicant's identity and address from relevant documents such as passport driving licence and utility or similar bill/correspondence.
- The Event Ambassador will then forward the relevant information to their Regional Ambassador who is a register countersignatory for PVG for parkrun.
- The Regional Ambassador will then submit a request to Disclosure Scotland to send you an online application form.
- At this stage, you will get an email from Disclosure Scotland, asking you to complete your application form online. You only have 14 days to complete this and return it - if you miss the deadline you will have to start the process again.
- Please complete the online application form within 14 days and submit to Disclosure Scotland as directed. Disclosure Scotland have made a video to show the steps involved - please click here to view this to support you with making your application.
- Disclosure Scotland will then process your PVG application and you will be notified via email from Disclosure Scotland that their online result is ready to be viewed and shared.
- Following the instructions on the email you receive, you will need to either log in or create a Scot Account, to view their result and then share this with parkrun by clicking “Share Result”.
- The parkrun Safeguarding team will be sent an email so that they can log in and verify the PVG check; they will note that you are cleared to carry out the role of RD/ED at junior parkrun, and record the details we need. You do not need to send us your certificate yourself.
- Volunteers who have completed a PVG Disclosure for parkrun and who decide to stop volunteering should contact Disclosure Scotland directly to inform them by completing this form and emailing it to dsupdate@disclosurescotland.gov.scot.
