In the UK, all Event Directors at junior parkrun carry out safeguarding and child protection training.
In Ireland, all regular volunteers, Run Directors and Event Directors at junior parkrun carry out safeguarding and child protection training.
In Australia, all junior parkrun Event Ambassadors, Run Directors and Event Directors carry out safeguarding and child protection training.
The exception to the above is if someone is otherwise qualified (for example if they are a social worker), AND had it confirmed by the Safeguarding Team that the alternative qualification is acceptable.
Safeguarding training UK
All junior parkrun Event Directors must carry out the online training course ‘Child Protection in Sport’, delivered by the NSPCC. To access this training, the Event Director/s should email safeguarding@parkrun.com with their name, event and parkrun number, and a course will be allocated to them.
This course must be successfully completed before the role of Event Director is undertaken. The course should be re-taken every three years.
Safeguarding training Ireland
When starting a new junior parkrun in Ireland, all Event Directors, Run Directors and anyone who will be a regular volunteer must complete An Introduction to Children First.
This course must be successfully completed by all team members before the event starts and must be re-taken every three years. No one can start in the role of Run Director or Event Director without sending evidence of the completed course to safeguarding@parkrun.com.
Safeguarding training Australia
All junior parkrun Run and Event Directors, and Event Ambassadors are required to complete safeguarding training prior to commencing in the role. This is due to the role, although voluntary, being child-related work. Training is accessed via Sport Integrity Australia providing free online training under the Play by The Rules initiative. Once completed, a certificate of attainment is provided and must be forwarded to the Operations Team via eventsupport@parkrun.com to be recorded.
Training can be accessed via the following link: https://elearning.sportintegrity.gov.au/login/index.php. This training is also accessible by any event team members, parents and any associate of parkrun.
